Planned Gifts are a simple way to make an important contribution to The National Italian American Hall of Fame and leave a permanent and enduring legacy. Planned gifts include will bequests, gifts of property or insurance and charitable trusts.
Will Bequests
An outright, general-purpose bequest from your estate is the most valuable
because it gives The NIASHF and the Board of Directors the flexibility to use
your gift where it is most needed. If you are including The NIASHF in your
estate planning, we encourage you to make an unrestricted bequest.
| I give and bequeath to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, a 501 (3)(c) not-for-profit corporation located at 1431 West Taylor Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607, the sum of $ ______________ (or _____ % of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate) for its general corporate purposes. |
Gifts of Life Insurance
Many of our members no longer need their life insurance that was purchased to
provide for children or other family members. If you choose, you may donate the
policy to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame and claim a
charitable deduction for approximately the policy's cash surrender value, and
the proceeds are completely removed from your estate.
Life Income Gifts enable you to provide for yourself - or family or
friends - with income for life and at the same time provide generous future
support to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. A life income
gift gives you an immediate income tax charitable deduction and can also reduce
or eliminate capital gains taxes if you use appreciated property to make your
gift. There can be significant estate and gift tax savings, too.
- How a Life Income Gift Works
The basic idea of a life income gift is to allow you to receive income from assets donated to the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame. You irrevocably transfer cash or other property and in return, you or your chosen beneficiaries receive lifetime payments based on what you gave. Afterwards, your gift is made fully available to The NIASHF. - Income Tax Charitable Deduction
Because the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame will ultimately receive your gift after the life income payments end, you can claim a partial income tax charitable deduction in the year the gift is made. The amount of deduction depends on the age of each income beneficiary and is calculated using a formula specified in the Internal Revenue Code. - Capital Gains Tax Savings
By contributing long-term appreciated assets instead of cash to fund a life income gift, you can also take advantage of a significant tax benefit: capital gains taxes can be reduced or even avoided on the appreciated property you give. - Gift and Estate Tax Benefits
Life income gifts can be useful in minimizing gift and estate taxes whether it is set up during your lifetime or through your estate plan. If structured properly, the can help reduce the size of your taxable estate. As part of an estate plan, they also provide an opportunity to provide for the continuing financial needs of surviving family members and friends and to make a generous gift to The NIASHF. - Types of Life Income Gifts
The type of life income gift depends on the amount of the gift and the desire for fixed or variable income.- Charitable Remainder Unitrust (Variable)
A unitrust makes variable payments based on the annual value of the trust and whatever rate you specify when establishing the trust. A unitrust allows you some opportunity to keep pace with inflation over time, and you may make additional future contributions to it. - Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust (Fixed)
An annuity trust makes fixed payments which are specified when you establish the trust. An annuity trust is appealing to someone seeking stable income. To cannot add to an annuity trust.
- Charitable Remainder Unitrust (Variable)
If you are interested in pursuing planned giving options, we suggest you consult with your own legal and tax advisors for professional help in your planning. The NIASHF's legal team will then be able to work out an agreement which is most beneficial to your needs.
