James Duratz is a businessman who actively engages in many endeavors. He headed the Meadville Master Antenna Company which was recognized as a pioneer in the development of cable television. In his “spare time”, Jim has held several positions in local and county government in Crawford county. He is a member of the Pitt Golden Panthers, and has been a big contributor to Pitt projects.

Franco was born on March 7, 1950, at Fort Dix, NJ, to the late Cad and Gina (Parenti) Harris.

After graduating from Rancocas Valley Regional High School in Mount Holly, NJ, he played fullback at Penn State under Joe Paterno. Franco graduated with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted him with the 13th pick in the first round of the 1972 NFL draft. His selection helped catalyze the evolution from the NFL’s worst team to its most successful. Franco’s achievements on the field were impressive – he was a four- time Super Bowl champion, Super Bowl IX MVP, 1972 Rookie of the Year, 1976 NFL Man of the Year, and a Pro Football Hall of Famer. His greatest achievements, however, were made off of the playing field. His steadfast dedication to helping others throughout his life serve as an inspiration to all and a testament to his commitment to kindness, charity, decency, and humility.

In his life after professional football Franco’s passion for business manifested in a number of successful ventures including Super Bakery, the Leader in Bakery Nutrition®. His charitable endeavors and community involvement are unmatched, highlighted by his chairmanship of the Pittsburgh Promise. He is survived by his wife Dana and son Dok.

A Pittsburgh native, Michael was born and raised in Scott Township. While attending Chartiers Valley High School, Michael excelled at wrestling and football. After High School, he enrolled at Milligan College in Tennessee where he continued his wrestling and football career while studying business.

After two years at Milligan, Michael unfortunately suffered a shoulder injury that brought him back to Pittsburgh for two operations. During recovery from surgery, he attended night school and earned his degree in Business Administration.

Michael passed away on May 6, 2016. He was the beloved husband of late Carla (DaPra) Morasca who passed away on Nov. 19, 2003 and survived by his Daughter Jenna Morasca.

The Greater Pittsburgh Hotel Association along with NIASHF Pittsburgh Chapter would like to carry on Mike’s Legacy by honoring a Michael Morasca Memorial Scholarship.

Dominic T. Roppa’s physical stature was exceeded only by the size of his heart. Referred to by friends as “Big D,” Dominic was a man who gave so much of himself to others and believed that one should be judged by the number of lives one touches rather than by the number of years one spends on earth. Upon his mother’s death, when he was just 18 months-old, Dominic was raised by relatives. As a result, he quickly learned the value of hard work and the importance of family.

Dominic was a Sewickley native who graduated from Quaker Valley High and Youngstown State University. He invented the fried cheese stick in 1968 and, in 1980, established Anthony’s Fried Provolone, Inc., becoming the first person to mass-produce the product.

Additionally, Dominic was an integral part of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame (NIASHF). Since his passing 30 years ago, the NIASHF has chosen to help his name live forever by honoring recipients with the Dominic T. Roppa Memorial Scholarship.

Dominic is survived by his wife, Nancy Helm, daughters Lisa Sweeney and Nicole Thelen, and son Anthony D. Roppa. With this scholarship, Anthony and his wife, Danielle, help to carry on Dominic’s legacy.
